June 15, 2019 - 7pm
Performance by Octavia, with Nicholas Ford
Musical Accompaniment by Michael Sterne, HB Smith, Bud Albright, and Dale Lingenfelter
You are invited to the Third Annual Hallelujah Spring concert, benefitting the Alexandria Museum of Art, and held at the St. James Episcopal Church, in Alexandria. This concert is a tribute to Carole King, American composer and singer-songwriter and the most successful female songwriter of the latter half of the 20th century, and will feature a selection of her songs as performed by Octavia, and Nicholas Ford, with musical accompaniment by Michael Sterne, HB Smith, Bud Albright, and Dale Lingenfelter, in a concert setting on stage in the sanctuary area of the temple, with a champagne and cake reception following.
Octavia has been singing for more than 20 twenty years. During that time, among other activities, she has filled a roll as worship leader. In 2013 she debuted her single “God Will Deliver” on iTunes. This fresh sound quickly connected to audiences across culturally diverse communities. She continues to inspire listeners with her unique style of music. Music from her recent album Cheerleader can be heard on local and internet radio stations.
Nicholas Ford graduated with a Vocal Music Specialization from Mississippi School of the Arts in 2016 and graduated Cum Laude with Honors from Mississippi College, earning a Bachelor of Music Composition. His Honors Thesis was Timbral Dissonance: Composing for New Dimensions of Vocal Sound (2016). His original compositions have been performed by the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra as well as the Chorale and Concert Band at Mississippi College. Nicholas has also served as a Music Department Tutor at Mississippi College, and as the Church Musician at First Presbyterian Church of Canton, MS.
