EVENTS & ACTIVITIES
Children are especially welcome to visit and enjoy the wonders in the world of art. All school age students, home school groups, other organizations and individuals can make the Journey to AMoA to view authentic and genuine objects of worth. The education staff of AMoA will provide a Vision that will encourage visual awareness and actively involve students in expressing their thoughts and feelings about art. Art museums are among the few institutions able to teach children how to see and understand works from original art. The Alexandria Museum of Art is a place for "fun in learning".
Create Your Own "Fun in Learning" at AMoA.
The Journeys and Visions tour last from one hour to an hour and a half. Less time can be arranged. Leaders can choose from the activities below that would best suit their group.

ArtExpress
Sponsored by: AMoA
ArtExpress started on the road again. This is a FREE program for Rapides Parish schools to take advantage of giving students a better understanding of art by addressing subjects such as fine art objects, the social context in which they are created and the motivations of the individual artists. The education team will visit schools with all the supplies needed with no cost to the schools. One 50 minute session will be held at the time of visit. Teachers are encouraged to combine classes to enable more students to have the opportunity to experience this wonderful program. For more information contact AMoA.
Pinwheels for Peace
The Alexandria Museum of Art is preparing to present the Pinwheels for Peace project to the community. This project will enable students to make a public statement about their feelings on war / peace / tolerance / cooperation / harmony and, in some way, maybe, awaken the public and let them know what this generation is thinking about the violence that surrounds them.
AMoA is asking all schools to please join us in making pinwheels to be “planted” and then exhibited on September 21, 2007 at the Mini Park across from City Hall and the Alexandria Museum of Art. September 21st is International Peace Day and the spinning of the pinwheels will spread thoughts and feelings about peace throughout the country and the world. Deadline for pinwheels to be delivered to AMoA is September 18, 2007.
It will make a wonderful statement to see many pinwheels decorated in various styles blowing in the wind. Through the different art media students are showing forms of expression in a time when conflict and war are commonplace and accepted as part of our society. On September 21st the City of Alexandria will present music in the Mini Park for the Brown Bag Friday lunch. There will be many people downtown to enjoy the display of Pinwheels.
This exciting project is designed with students in mind and the need for their self expression on the world today. Join AMoA in bringing a visual public statement about peace to Alexandria and the world.
