  1. Museum Moves - Ballroom Dance Class

    2/7/2012 6:45:00 PM

Starting Tuesday MUSEUM MOVES Ballroom Dance Lessons begin in the museum’s third floor Gallery, and will culminate with a dance party on April 20th. An average adult can burn up to 500 calories during one hour of dance. In addition, ballroom dancing is good for your brain because it is both a physical and social activity that requires memorization. Dancing also helps to strengthen muscles and build bone mass which can prevent osteoporosis.

Instructor, RANDY SIMS, has been teaching Ballroom Dance for 25 years, beginning in the 80s with the Fred Astaire and Aurthur Murray organizations. Since then, he has taught, competed, done exhibitions and judged all over the country. Randy is a member of the National Dance Council of America and maintains his own continued training. This fall Randy will be teaching FOX TROT & SWING at AMoA.

  5. YOGA TAO

    1/17/2012 6:45:00 PM

    February 17, 2012

Notice schedule has changed -- TUESDAYS 5:30 - 6:30 PM Only!

Join AMoA for our new YOGA IN THE GALLERY!

Our YOGA class is now FREE and open to the public thanks to a grant from the Rapides Foundation.  Yoga will still meet in the Overlook Gallery on the third floor, which offers a warm atmosphere with wood floors, changing artwork, and a wonderful view.

We are pleased to announce b. Hedrick as our new Yoga instructor.  b. Hedrick is an ascetic Taoist yogi with 14 years of yoga practice informing his teaching method – Yoga Tao.

Certified in Kripalu Yoga, Hedrick also practiced western medicine for 7.5 years. His knowledge and experience stem from eastern and western thinking and contribute to a dynamic sense of balance.

Yoga Tao is an “all level” opportunity – from beginner to advanced, incorporating spirit-mind-body techniques providing participants with stress reduction, strengthening, flexibility, and balance also useful in everyday life off the yoga mat.

His method has evolved out of a daily yoga practice directed by the natural flow of yin and yang energies.  His intention is simply to share the journey of unfolding self-discovery with his participants – realizing that the real Guru is God.

    O

    YOGA TAO

"Yoga Tao is an asana and pranayama practice directed by the natural flow of yin and yang energies.

As facilitator of this experience, individually or in a group, I serve as a mediator between the participants and the process, opening the space for yin/yang flow in the session.

Chakra imagery plays a substantial role in identifying and freeing energy to move at the various chakra levels activated as a result of mindful movement through asana and naturally occurring pranayama.

Participants connecting with Yoga Tao will find each session contributes to the evolution of their own private practice unfolding spontaneously moment to moment resulting in the discovery of a deeper, more conscious sense of one’s integration with the forces governing the cosmos and the perpetual creation of reality.

From this emerging awareness, individuals will further identify the sacredness of their own spirit, mind, body make-up honoring how and who they are in their own skin – the beginning of a personal wellness journey that doesn’t end – that doesn’t fizzle – that root sit self deep into the lasting soil of authenticity."
